Macedonia – The Three Fates

The Three Fates, also called the Narechnici, are usually presented as three women, sometimes dressed in black, sometimes in white, or in peasant clothes with scarves. The first one of them is the youngest one, the second one is the second oldest and the third one is the oldest one. The second oldest one always has the final word.

In accordance with the will of God, the narechnici determine the faith of the newborn on the third evening. Sometimes, they even leave marks on the child, in the form of a bruise. They often write the predictions on the head of the child
